KonzertStattReise: City tour with concert

The Bremen Town Musicians 2.0

The Town Musicians are on tour again!

When the Concierto Ibérico ensemble performs on a wide variety of historical instruments for a guided tour of the city, there's not a dry eye in the house. Together with this young quartet, experience old Bremen in a whole new way: with historical facts, curious stories - and the lively music of the real town musicians of past centuries!

Together with Concierto Ibérico, StattReisen presents The Bremen Town Musicians 2.0, Bremen's first concert tour of the city! A tour guide and four musicians combine a city tour and a concert.

Smoke signals from the tobacco quarter

A city tour with music and dance

At this event, we combine a guided tour of the Tabakquartier with a small concert. Following in the footsteps of the former Brinkmann tobacco company, we will visit this exciting area of Bremen's urban development. The current conversion is just as much a topic as the one or other look behind the scenes.

Musically, this event is rounded off with a program from the 18th century, shortly before Martin Brinkmann started making cigarettes in 1813.

The music will be performed by the Ensemble Concierto Ibérico and the renowned StattReisen Bremen.

Music for wind and "all kinds of instruments"
in the context of urban history

The Bremen Council Music was once a firmly organized group of musicians who mastered a wide variety of instruments and played from the towers of the city -- to the delight of the citizens, and paid for it by the Council of the City of Bremen. But not only in Bremen, not only in Germany there were such town musicians, but for example also in Spain, where they were called Ministriles, and like their German colleagues were responsible for the musical background of various occasions in their home towns.

However, these city musicians usually played not only one instrument, but several, and often with impressive virtuosity. A report on the visit of the papal legate Reymund to Bremen on Ascension Day in 1504 emphasizes that one heard "...the city of Speluden playing splendidly with basoons, trumpets and crumhorns, shawms, flutes and all kinds of instruments...".

We, the Ensemble Concierto Ibérico, would like to continue this tradition in our time. And since we have set ourselves the task of strengthening the cultural exchange between Spain and the rest of Europe, our programs not only include contemporary German music for wind and "all kinds of" instruments, but also repertoire from the Iberian Peninsula - and all this at historical sites in Bremen.

So, in memory of the council musicians who made music for the city 500 years ago, we would like to establish a completely new and innovative project for Bremen, in which we accompany the participants of the city tour "KonzertStattReise" with music through Bremen's city center.

The ensemble behind the KonzertStattReisen

Since its foundation, the young ensemble has been committed to reviving the musical links and cultural exchanges between Spain and the rest of Europe that have existed since the "Siglo de Oro" (the Golden Age). You can find more information about our ensemble here.
