Workshop "Schütz in Italy – Experience, Experiment, Learn"

March 31 – April 2

From Friday, March 31, at 5 p.m. until Sunday, April 2, 2023, the trombone choir of the Christusgemeinde in Sinntal and Marjoß, in cooperation with the trombone ensemble of the Protestant Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck, invites you to a workshop at the Church Music Academy in Schlüchtern. The focus is on early music:

"Polyphonic music for wind instruments — Schütz in Italy"

The workshop is designed for motivated amateur and professional musicians interested in early music.
The topics of the course will be taught in five workshop sessions by members of the Weckmann Consort under the direction of Juan González Martínez:

· Historical performance practice
· Rhetoric and affect
· Ornamentation and early notation

In ensembles of varying sizes, we will work on music by Heinrich Schütz and his teacher Giovanni Gabrieli in order to experience, try out, and learn polyphony.
The intergenerational instrument maker Ewald Meinl is providing three baroque trombones (alto, tenor, and bass) for this weekend.
The early music specialists of the Weckmann Consort will teach the workshop participants:

Juan González Martínez - baroque trombone
Marshall Lamohr - baroque trombone
Arno Paduch - cornetto
Masafumi Sakamoto - baroque trombone
Lea Suter - organ
After a two-day workshop, there will be a final concert with music for several choirs.
