Weckmann meets Monteverdi
Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643) was one of the most important musicians of the 17th century in Italy and had a formative influence on an entire generation of composers throughout Europe. To mark the 380th anniversary of his birth, the Weckmann Consort is performing an anniversary concert. The Weckmann Consort plays in a mixed consort ensemble, taking into account the latest findings in historical performance practice in order to create a listening experience in its proper context. It performs with singers, strings, and wind instruments, as was customary in Monteverdi's time. At the same time, the musicians create a connection to North German composers, who were strongly influenced by Italian music-making through study trips to Italy. The Weckmann Consort was founded by musician and organ builder Lea Suter, together with Juan Gonzalez Martinez (baroque trombone). In their exploration of historical instruments, the musicians focus on the original sound.
