The Weckmann Consort will be playing his favorite music on the 350th anniversary of Matthias Weckmann's death: "The (Sound) Colors of Love" will feature works from Venice, the city of love, and from the Venetian School.
With their unusual and very colorful instrumentation (soprano, cornett, violin, trombones, theorbo and organ), the musicians trace the development of the Venetian school of composition from Adrian Willaert to Giovanni Gabrieli and Claudio Monteverdi, while also showing how this school was initially inspired from beyond the Alps and how it later influenced northern European composers such as Matthias Weckmann.
And in view of this new compositional style with its contrasting expressive possibilities, what could be more obvious than to make love in all its facets the central theme of this program?
So you can look forward to a colorful evening with Venetian flair - which will not only enlighten you about one of the most influential schools in the history of music, but will also reveal many a juicy detail from the love life of the 16th and 17th centuries ...
